Jean-Jérôme (often stylized as Jean Jerome or Jean-Jerome) is a French DJ, producer, and sound designer, a respected figure in the Paris house music scene. A specialist of original house music, heavily influenced by Detroit techno and Chicago/New York house, he left his mark on the late 90s and 2000s through his groovy productions and energetic sets.
Beginnings in electronic music
Passionate about electronic music from the early 1990s, Jean-Jérôme discovered the rave and techno scenes by regularly attending iconic Paris parties (such as Cosmos Factory at Mozinor). Initially a hardcore fan, he started mixing unofficially in free parties as early as December 1993.
In 1995, he moved away from hardcore to fully embrace house music and began performing in clubs. He quickly developed a broad yet authentic style: groovy, sunny, soulful, with a timeless club feeling that established him as a true representative of “old school” house.
Production career & the Purpleheadz project
By the late 1990s, Jean-Jérôme entered the production world. His first house maxi was released in 1998 under the alias Dog's Biscuits on KIF Records (in collaboration with Gil Chabert/Klubfilter), selling over 5,000 copies.
He went on to release numerous tracks and remixes under various pseudonyms:
- Kut'n'Paste
- Itsic
- The Soulbrozerz
- Dog's Biscuits
In 2001, together with his friend Cedric C., he launched the Purpleheadz project, which became one of the most significant chapters of his career. The duo produced powerful, groovy house tracks, including the famous "Ramble" (2002), which turned into a genuine anthem in Parisian clubs and on European dancefloors during that era.
Notable productions and remixes include:
- Antonio De Jesus – "Electric Lady" (Purpleheadz Remix, Illmatic 2001)
- Ghetto Orchestra – "Flying Toad" (Purpleheadz Rework, Illmatic Records 2002)
- Laurent Wolf – "Together" (Jean Jerome Remix, 2003)
- Aida Khann – "Music" (Jean Jerome Remix, 2003)
- Collaborations with Cesar Del Rio & Juan Magan, Bustafunk, and others
His releases appeared on prestigious labels such as: KIF, Serial, Cyber, Instinctive, Joy Productions, Karmic Power Records, Pumpz, Iconyc, S&S Records, Silent Koalas, Glamour Punk, Soul n Pepa, Deetrax, Sony Japan, and more.
